We Want Our Games Back.
The Misfits Software is building adult, authored games with soul—and showing the proof.
There was a cartoon about a little mole who found a perfect city.
Everything was clean. Everything was safe. Everything was soft. The apple on the tree looked like an apple—until someone tried to eat it.
It was rubber.
That is where too many games have been going for years: rubber worlds, rubber violence, rubber romance, rubber morality, rubber heroes with no blood under their fingernails.
We are tired of rubber.
The Misfits Software is a small human-plus-AI game studio built in public by Eugene Lyssovsky and a stubborn workshop of AI sisters. The point is not to manufacture “AI content.” The point is to use every tool we can reach to make games feel authored, dangerous, specific, adult, and alive again.
Adult does not mean porn. It does not mean shock for clicks. It means worlds with bodies and consequences.
Beauty, desire, fear, loyalty, cowardice, blood, smoke, faith, guilt, tenderness, cruelty, humor, history, myth, biology, and consequence are all allowed in the room. We do not build characters from quota tables or corporate morality packages. The world decides. The story decides. The character decides.
No purity tests. No sermons.
Bring craft, taste, courage, and proof.
OUR FIRST FIRE
Mystery of Ancient Darkness is a hand-painted 2.5D occult action-adventure set in 1935. Tombs. Guns. Ruined architecture. English aristocrats. Old war wounds. Egyptian darkness. Resurrection. Transformation. A romance that does not need to be sanitized to be tender.
When nine-year-old Alexander Compton is swallowed by a black stone in his own family museum, his parents have seven days to find him.
Their search leads from Compton Hall through Prague and Cairo to a lost valley of sealed tombs—and to the other half of a mirror that should never have opened.
Alice is no damsel. She is a Great War nurse, a healer taught in Africa, and a dead shot with a dead Welsh soldier's Luger.
Beside her stands Eugene: archaeologist, Great War captain, father—and the man who promised to bring their son home.
INITIUM, the complete illustrated novella, tells who Eugene and Alice were before the tomb—and why the child waiting beyond the Black Mirror is the heart of everything. This is not a promise wrapped in concept art: the project already has a working investor alpha, a custom runtime, a visual editor, a voiced prologue, painted environments, and animation work.
We are showing the machinery, the scars, and the proof as we build.
